Equate, BOROUGE and FERTIL recognised at the MECW 2011 Awards
21/10/11The MECW 2011 Awards offered an opportunity to showcase plant, project and technology excellence in the Middle East petrochemical and fertilizer industries.
The MECW awards consisted of the following three categories:
• Plant of the Year
• Project of the Year
• Technology of the Year
And the winners are...
PLANT OF THE YEAR AWARDAwarding a plant which has achieved operational excellence and/or made significant environmental contributions.
2011 WINNER: EQUATE PETROCHEMICAL COMPANY
Asrar Mohammad, Environmental Expert Engineer, Equate Petrochemical Company
The Plant of the Year Award is being presented to Equate for developing its own set of relevant HSE programmes, launching the Middle East’s Plant Water Recycle Project and Implementing an Effective and Sustainable Energy and Water Conservation Programme.

PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARD
Awarding a producer / EPC Contractor who has implemented a new build, revamp or capacity expansion project on time and within budget with a strong safety record.
2011 WINNER: ABU DHABI POLYMERS COMPANY (BOROUGE)
Faisal Al Shemsi, Senior Vice President, Borouge 3 Project
The Project of the Year Award is being presented to Borouge for the Borouge 2 Project which started up all units safely, on time and with minimum environmental impact. A challenging project consisting of four EPC contractors, it had an outstanding safety record that sets a new benchmark for the industry, and with minimum environmental impact (significantly reducing flaring during start-up.)

TECHNOLOGY OF THE YEAR AWARD
Recognizing a company for developing and/or improving upon an existing technology which drives the industry forward/makes an environmental contribution.
2011 WINNER: RUWAIS FERTILIZER INDUSTRIES (FERTIL)

The Technology of the Year Award goes to Fertil for its Recovery of Waste Water Using Reed Bed Technology.
